Working from home has many advantages. However, the #1 disadvantage of working from home is the decrease productivity and motivation. Increasingly people are being asked to work from home due to the global pandemic. Working outside an office or your usual work environment can be a challenge. So, how do you set yourself up for success? And what are the best ways to stay focused and productive?
Maintain a regular schedule
Try to adhere to your regular routine, from waking up at the normal time to sitting down to start work and taking lunch breaks. Even though your environment is different, it doesn’t mean your entire schedule needs to be.
Stay connected with your team, colleagues, clients and others. Keep each other updated and motivated by your communicator apps, perhaps switch emailing for a phone call where possible or arrange a conference call for team discussions.
Taking breaks in a timely manner is prudent to your productivity and motivation, even more so when working from home. If you have to, set reminders to take your breaks, perhaps go for a walk, have a coffee or call a colleague.
Create a to-do list or schedule out your day to help ensure you’re not falling behind on tasks just because you’re away from the office. You could even email it out at the end of the day. It will keep yourself and your team accountable and give you a sense of accomplishment.
